007 First light: License to Thrill
Gameplay
First Light absolutely nails the feeling of embodying James Bond. From the gadgets and stealth mechanics to the intense shoot-outs and incredible cast, this honestly feels like the best Bond game to date. The game constantly gives you the freedom to approach situations however you want, whether that means sneaking through levels like a stealth master or going in as a cold-hearted assassin. That being said though, the freedom of choice is also a semi illusion since it leads you to the same point anyways. In short you can chose how you get to that point, but the way you do things dosnt alter anything in any meaningful way.
The overall gameplay feels like a servicable blend between Hitman and Uncharted, mixing cinematic action with open-ended stealth in a way that works surprisingly well. I played the game on the hardest difficulty, and I’d definitely recommend it if you want the combat to shine. Enemies become much more aggressive, hit way harder and encounters can actually get pretty difficult at times, which made everything way more rewarding. The engine itself also deserves praise because everything feels extremely responsive and fluid, from movement to shooting and everything els.
That said, the gameplay isn’t perfect. Quick time events were too easy and the melee combat also felt somewhat off. A lot of the takedowns felt cheesy, and sometimes the system just seemed outright broken. There were multiple moments where enemy targeting during melee encounters didn’t work properly, leading to awkward or frustrating moments. Boss fights were also something i felt should have been given more focus and probably could have been done in a better and more engaging way.
📕 STORY
What surprised me the most about First Light was just how good the story actually is. I honestly did not expect to see such an excellent Bond-style narrative, especially in video game form. In fact, one could genuinely argue that it stands shoulder to shoulder with some of the best stories the Bond franchise has ever delivered. It perfectly captures the tone of classic 007, stylish, thrilling, suspenseful, and packed with memorable moments while still managing to feel fresh and personal.
What really makes the narrative work is the balance between spectacle and character. The game absolutely delivers the larger than life spy action you would expect from Bond, but it also gives its characters enough depth and development to make the emotional moments land. The pacing is fantastic as well; once the story gets going, it completely hooks you and never really lets go.
I won’t get into specific story details because many of the game’s best moments, twists, and reveals are far better experienced with fresh eyes. But if you are a Bond fan, or even just someone who enjoys a great spy thriller, First Light absolutely delivers a narrative that deserves to be experienced firsthand.
🔈 Sound
First of all, the cast and voice acting in this game are easily some of its strongest features. The performances across the board feel incredibly authentic and cinematic, and they do a huge amount of work in making First Light truly feel like a proper Bond experience rather than just another action game with a 007 skin. Every major character is brought to life with confidence and personality, and the chemistry between the cast really helps elevate both the quieter dialogue scenes and the more intense moments throughout the story.
And of course, it wouldn’t be a Bond game without the music. The inclusion of classic James Bond-inspired songs and themes adds so much to the atmosphere and presentation. Whether the game is building tension during a stealth sequence or exploding into full cinematic action, the soundtracks consistently nails the tone. Combined with the stellar voice acting and strong sound effects, the audio design is a massive part of what makes First Light feel so satisfying to play.
Visuals
Visually, First Light is a really impressive game. The graphics are done extremely well across the board, with gorgeous facial animations and highly detailed character models that help sell both the cinematic moments and the quieter character interactions. The same can also be said about the world itself. Every location feels rich with detail and atmosphere, whether you’re walking through luxurious hotels, dense urban environments, or hostile compounds out in the middle of nowhere. The game constantly feels stylish and visually polished in a way that perfectly fits the Bond universe.
Now, is it a groundbreaking visual showcase on the same level that Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice was? Probably not, but does it really need to be? Not every game has to completely redefine graphics technology to look fantastic, and First Light absolutely succeeds at delivering a beautiful and immersive experience. The absence of features like ray tracing and path tracing definitely makes you wonder just how much better the game could have looked with those technologies implemented. Still, even without them, I honestly never found myself thinking negatively about the visuals for even a second while playing. The art direction, lighting, animation quality, and overall presentation are more than strong enough to carry the experience.
Overall, in my opinion, this is easily the best Bond game ever made. More than anything else, it genuinely feels like you are playing through a full 10–14 hour Bond movie, and that was absolutely awesome to experience. The game perfectly captures the style, tension, action, and charm that make the Bond universe so iconic while still feeling modern and fresh as a video game.
Between the servicable gameplay, the excellent voice acting, the impressive visuals, and the genuinely thrilling narrative, First Light succeeds in almost every area that matters. If the gameplay was elevated a bit more i would probably give this game an even higher score, cuz both the story and sound aspect of this game is done exceptionally well. Even with a few flaws here and there, the overall package is incredibly polished and consistently entertaining from start to finish. If you are a fan of James Bond, spy thrillers, or cinematic action games in general, this is absolutely something you should experience. First Light doesn’t just feel like a good Bond game, it feels like a Bond game fans have been waiting for.
